Therapy for Children & Teens

Support for Emotional, Behavioral, and School-Related Challenges

Raising a child or teen comes with moments of uncertainty, worry, and emotional overwhelm. Whether your child or teen is struggling with anxiety, big emotions, school stress, or behavioral changes, therapy can provide meaningful support during these important developmental years.

At Healing Is a Journey LLC, children and teens are supported through developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and evidence-based therapy, delivered through secure telehealth across Texas. Care is individualized, emotionally safe, and designed to help young people build skills they can carry into daily life.

A Strong Foundation in Education & Child Development

Before entering private practice, I spent over 21 years in the Texas educational system serving as a Texas Certified Teacher, School Counselor, 504 Coordinator, and active ARD Committee Member. This background allows me to deeply understand children’s emotional needs, school expectations, peer dynamics, and the complexities of educational supports.

This experience informs therapy that is developmentally responsive, emotionally attuned, and sensitive to both home and school environments. I collaborate thoughtfully with parents—and when appropriate, help support communication with school teams—to assist children in navigating emotional regulation, academic stress, and social challenge.

School-Related Support (GT / 504 / IEP)

School demands can significantly impact a child or teen’s emotional wellbeing. Therapy can support students who are in, seeking, or adjusting to Gifted & Talented (GT) programs, 504 accommodations, or Special Education (IEP) services by addressing the emotional and behavioral stress that often accompanies academic expectations.

Therapeutic support may include:

  • Emotional regulation strategies for school-related stress

  • Coping with academic pressure, perfectionism, or performance anxiety

  • Support for attention, organization, and executive functioning

  • Adjustment to accommodations or changes in services

  • Helping children and teens process feelings related to learning differences or academic identity

  • Guidance for parents navigating school-related emotional concerns

Therapy does not include educational evaluations, advocacy, eligibility determinations, or placement decisions. Services are therapeutic in nature and are designed to complement—not replace—school-based supports.
